Dento-Facial Orthopedics

Jaw misalignments can be corrected during a child’s growth period using orthopaedic appliances. These devices apply forces to the jawbones, stimulating their growth and guiding them into a more favourable position.

Appliances for Class II skeletal

Class II skeletal malocclusion is characterized by a small lower jaw relative to the upper jaw, often resulting in a recessed chin and protruding upper front teeth.

Class II orthopaedic appliances are designed to promote lower jaw growth and improve its position.

Appliances for Class III skeletal

Class III skeletal malocclusion occurs when the lower jaw is positioned forward relative to the upper jaw, which can lead to underbite (dental anterior crossbite).

In cases of a smaller upper jaw, orthopaedic forces can be applied to stimulate its forward growth.

Appliance for constricted / narrow upper jaw

A narrow upper jaw can result in crowded, crooked upper teeth and an improper bite.

By expanding the upper jaw, we can create sufficient space for teeth to align correctly, and there’s evidence suggesting potential benefits for breathing as well.

Orthopaedic expansion is aimed at widening if the upper jaw bone.
